Autonomy Selected to Power Houses of Parliament's Information Management System
CAMBRIDGE, England, Dec. 15 Autonomy Corporation plc, a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that it has been selected to power the new information system for the House of Commons and House of Lords. The Parliamentary Information Management Services project (PIMS) utilises Autonomy's IDOL infrastructure fo indexing, search and retrieval in conjunction with Vignette's content management suite, which also uses Autonomy at the core.
The House of Commons' and House of Lords' Libraries will use Autonomy to automate the retrieval, delivery and routing of content to users from a wide range of internal and external information sources. The new infrastructure will replace the existing Parliamentary Online Indexing Service (POLIS) and will deliver an intelligent information service infrastructure to all parliamentary users. Autonomy was selected following an extensive evaluation of other technologies available, in accordance with the EU procedures for public procurement.
Information, in its broadest sense, is at the heart of a democratic society: access to information is fundamental to the success of both a democratic parliament and its people. Autonomy is pleased to assist the Libraries and PIMS in their work.
Priscilla Baines, Librarian of the House of Commons said: "PIMS will be
central to how the Libraries provide services to Members in future. We need reliable and accurate information retrieval facilities, and Autonomy will provide that essential assistance automatically. Intuitive technology will make the solution accessible to all users. By helping us to automate tasks such as classifying, tagging, searching, and retrieving information Autonomy will enable us to devote more time to research and added value activities that bring benefits to our customers."
Dominic Johnson, Group Marketing Director of Autonomy, commented: "We are proud to announce this new agreement to provide the information infrastructure in both the House of Lords and the House of Commons. This is a high profile win for Autonomy after extensive evaluation of other technologies and continues our longstanding relationship with the public sector."
